“Commonplace Politics”
Some people forget the objects for their names.
Some people forget the names for their objects.
Some people forget both, or, do not forget anything when they need to.
And, people talk, and talk, and talk, without reference to any origin.
The origin was there at some point.
But, as time goes on, the origin of meaning begins to fade.
Everything about the meaning changes into a land of weeds.
It’s like a kingdom of thorns.
Knights look under the roses for hearts and hear exceeding echoes.
Sounds are crossing the castle along the bridge.
But, as time goes on, “the” spell is broken.
They just don’t know which one.
What is white, black, and red all over?
A newspaper of course.
Chat involves sense.
But, who gets the “sense” of conversation first?
Who knows if the person’s sense is everlasting?
How can such touch be permanent?
People are ever so touching.
And, a touch will be gone before we feel it reach.
This makes contact psychological for reading and talking in general.
So, objects for names can disappear, and, names for objects can disappear.
Do we need another name for a pencil?
I think my pencil is fine.
But, so much imagination takes place around the origin of meaning.
We will eventually have to stop searching and say, “Here’s a pencil.”
