“Death and the Future of Literature”
Authors will pass away when they’re old enough to go on.
They will die.
But, their literature will be permanent records for all eternity.
Let’s talk about something important.
Let’s create science fiction for ourselves about dead authors.
Authors from the past are often gone into the afterlife.
They are not living here with modern people from today.
Modern people remember the past with so much confusion.
Readers will probably think their dead authors are still living.
Of course, this is not possible.
The dead authors are gone.
Let’s create science fiction about this idea.
Let’s say this:
Let’s say, we bring a dead author back to life.
We bring a dead author back to life.
We can even call him Frankenstein.
The dead author comes back to life after death from so long ago.
We bring him back to life.
And, we tell him the truth about modern society.
We give him general information on the truth of the day.
We give him modern evidence.
We give him modern truth.
We give him modern facts.
We give him modern information.
We give him modern education.
We give him modern living.
How would the dead author respond to us?
Maybe the dead author would be so proud for his past.
He would probably be in good standing with modern evidence.
He would even perhaps get increasing confidence and increasing wisdom.
Maybe, if you think about it, the dead author would have no regrets.
He would have no regrets about his official literature.
OR…
Maybe the dead author would feel so stupid.
Maybe he would regret what he said.
Maybe he would apologize to you.
Maybe he would apologize to all of us.
He would start getting dramatic and hopeless.
He would feel like such a fool.
He would even call himself an idiot.
He would probably get so sad.
He would probably get angry with himself.
He would soon realize his literature was faulty and unreliable.
He would feel so terrible about his literature.
He would probably apologize to you, over, and over, and over, and over.
He would start crying, or start weeping, or start getting depression.
He would really feel guilty about his authorship.
Maybe, just maybe, he would CHANGE HIS MIND.
He would throw his old book away and go to a hospital with a foul sickness.
He would be a modern citizen and feel his offensive experience of memory.
This science fiction is a metaphor about the possibility.
I do fear it.
I fear it a lot.
Why do young readers believe in “new” books so much?
Why do young readers believe in “modern” books so much?
Reality changes.
Reality happens.
Reality impacts truth and justice.
Our knowledge will be temporary after the moment.
History can be like an expired coupon.
Do you accept expired coupons?
Do you accept obsolete materials?
Do you accept forgotten homework from your past?
We need to be careful with old books.
We should be careful with new books as well.
Ideas are very tricky.
My great grandparents were probably right or probably wrong.
Books will be traps for careless readers.
The words get so surprising and shocking.
We just need to remember what death means for authors and readers.
