“The Soda Jerk”
A man walked up to a child in some restaurant near the soda fountain and told the little boy, “Oh, you’re drinking waste.” That young boy, from hearing this, ran to his parents in fear and told his mother and father about the stranger. When the stranger remained at the drinking fountain for a minute longer the father marched up to this rude stranger and asked him, “What’s your problem? Why are you talking to my son like that?” From hearing the father’s loud voice, the man shrunk back into a coward and walked out of the restaurant, head hanging low in shame. But the boy’s mother followed this jerk outside of the restaurant and confronted him. “Please don’t argue with my only child. He’s young and doesn’t understand, but you betray his normal, everyday life with your criticism and bias. What do you mean by telling the boy this?” A guy like him made a heavy sigh near his car and said it was the truth. The mom was shocked. “The truth? You’re not telling the truth! My son already went to the bathroom and was just treating himself after helping us pack boxes for a month. He couldn’t eat a cheeseburger for three weeks, we’re struggling for money, and here you are telling him it’s ‘waste’. I don’t know who you are!” “Madam, I’m a victim of circumstance. Soda is terrible for your health and I was just bumping into the child, it’s on my mind.” “Well, let it be in your mind or get out of it! I’m calling the cops!” Suddenly, the man pushed the boy’s mother away from his car, got in his car, and drove away to safety over the hills. The restaurant’s management team came outside to help the mother and found the driver gone. One manager simply asked, “What happened?” The old woman was hurt on the ground with an injured knee, crying a bit, and admitted to the restaurant’s management team that it was unfortunate. “He’s a disturbed young man. Nobody in the building wanted to look the guy in the eye; suspicious minds were floating around everywhere, and that man wanted to cave in. We’ll keep an eye on him if he comes back.” The lady got help from the management team and went back into the restaurant looking for her husband and child.
