Poem- “Common and Rare”

“Common and Rare”

Junk food is not “common” for a healthy diet.

Under good judgement, it’s rare.

Healthy Americans only have 30 or 40 days for junk food in an entire year.

Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats are common.

Cheeseburgers, fries, milkshakes, pizza, gravy, and “treats” are rare.

You can usually eat at a table in a junk food restaurant.

Junk food is not always fast food.

Fast food is more common than expensive junk food.

Expensive junk food is often even worse in sizes and combos.

You never have a side salad with Oreos.

But, for supermarkets and grocery stores, you just get food and go home.

I wonder why.

Shouldn’t we have more tables and chairs in a grocery store?

Why can’t I eat in a grocery store?

Do I always have to take food home and sit at home, all alone?

We need more table manners for healthy food and less for junk food.

Junk food should not be so public and open.

Healthy food needs to be public and open.

Unfortunately, most restaurants are not farmlands.

We need long-distance shipping for food.

So, junk food can be more necessary than we think it is.

As more and more people call healthy food “treats”, I begin to wonder.

Orange juice is not soda.

Orange juice is not even orange soda.

Just a color like “orange” can mean hesitation between red and green.

“Red” and “green” are like come and go.

People do look for healthy food.

And, they get junk food during their search for healthy food.

So junk food can act like the “orange light” for busy traffic.

We do need that orange light.

Sometimes we really need that acquired taste for endurance of faith.
