Poem- “Outside Corner”

“Outside Corner”

Some people don’t exactly quote from a book.
Instead, they’ll quote “around” a book.
Honesty isn’t their first policy.
Each reader looks for a way out of literary embarrassment.
For examples:

People won’t actually read about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
The Bible isn’t quoted on superstitions those ancients had against witches.
Shakespeare is only read for the “sweet meats”.
Knights of the Round Table are misrepresented by literary irrelevancy.
Mark Twain is labeled racist when he was also other things.
Readers to poetry may wish it wasn’t so dramatic.
“Frankenstein” (as a movie) is libel against the original writer.
We’re not actually told who Don Quixote is, and, probably think Dracula is cute.
A quote from specifics in a book doesn’t represent the whole.
Political activists want authority for books they’ve never read-
As instances, Karl Marx and Albert Einstein are seldom ever observed for bias.
Visitors on the internet “do their research”- by that, I mean they’re being low class.
Obstacles in the way are dismissed from the pretending.
Fashion is tagged over serious matters.
So on, and so forth.

Guys need to quote from a book if they really believe in it.
Otherwise, it’s evidence from another table.
Ideas become articles of fancy where thought doesn’t go deep.
