Videogame Review, Space Invaders for the Arcade (w/ Atari VCS 800)

Videogame Review, Space Invaders for the Arcade (w/ Atari VCS 800)

There’s a program on my Atari VCS 800 which lets me play hundreds of old videogames, absolutely free!  Sure, these games are called “ants” in the program.  But what really makes this special is that we get hundreds of games for free.  Imagine that!  Do you know how much money you would’ve needed for Space Invaders in the 1980’s?!  Back in the 1980’s, gamers needed lots of money to have even one, single video game in their home.  Now you can play hundreds of games.  You can play them for free, share with friends, and call up the satellite.  Man!  Any gamer who does not like this Antstream program is a spoiled brat.  Remember: Sony and Microsoft have “ants”, too.  The word “ant” describes a video game that is so old that it becomes commonplace and easy to find.  We’re not talking about just gems.  Space Invaders is a video game from the arcade.  Keep in mind that, as of late, I’m actually one of the best players in the world for Space Invaders although the Super Nintendo version of the arcade classic is more soft and easy to manage, and, the Super Nintendo treatment rewarded us with a variety of different screen effects.  This “ant” I’m speaking of is low-key, but tough as nails.  On one hand, the game is very short; on the other hand, the game is very dramatic.  It’s especially scary when the motherships float over your planet with screaming noises and confusing distractions on a 4K TV.  Fun begins and ends near the coast.  The Xbox-style controller is a strong device and my joystick is a classic fight for protection in all of humanity.  Space Invaders was an early bird and it shows- notice the colors, the shades, and the reflections of combat under rows of terrible predators.  The space aliens are paying a predatory visit; not that they eat me, but close enough.  Something magical happens when I look at nice geometric points of interest only to hurt chance on radar.  A weather channel on TV today might say that the future is “present”.  It still comes with a lots of twists and turns along the edge.  We don’t see weather in this game.  Streets of Rage 4, while it may look modern, actually borrows some elements from Space Invaders even if the programmers for Sega’s reference used small names for the credits.  “Space Invaders” is a big name.  If anything, the name is now so obvious and tremendous.  What it really comes down to is gameplay!  Finding the sweet spots behind the barriers is a trick in of itself.  The aliens pretend to “march in the sky”.  You can hear the sound effects indicating the picture of horror and frustration.  Like I’ve said, the game is very short.  At least the drama is only managed for a quick burst of fumes between the rounds.  This isn’t Pac-Man.  A high score should be possible for most people for Pac-Man.  Just getting 10 extra points can make a huge difference of confidence in Space Invaders.  The best score I’ve had thus far is on the Super Nintendo version with over 4,000 points.  Ironically enough, the arcade version is more “down to it” and “crazy”.  My Atari VCS 800 has been running old games very well.  It’s especially important that the Atari VCS 800 can jump through generations of video game history with a blast from the past and efficient engineering.  Space Invaders isn’t my greatest passion.  I’m only a great player for it.
