Videogame Review, Arcade Classics for the Sega Genesis 3 (w/ Brand New Console)

Videogame Review, Arcade Classics for the Sega Genesis 3 (w/ Brand New Console)

I was very pleased in 2017 when this game was dismissed in one of my reviews.  Maybe, too pleased.  But it’s easy to get confused with this arcade collection of games even today.  Centipede is a classic; however, you wouldn’t tell by looking into this Sega Genesis version- the speed is all wrong, with bugs approaching and retreating in an erratic fashion that’s more expected from a home-brew game.  Of course it can be said the Sega Genesis has ties to Atari 2600 mechanics in visual styles and some simple-button control.  Downloading exists in this game in the forms of still frames, paused moments, and separated menus.  At least my “slow” function for the Sega Genesis 3 works wonders.  A red switch is designed on the Sega Genesis 3 controller and I may use it for guaranteed rapid fire or the “slow” mode which rapidly pauses the game while it’s in progress, thus making it a slower program for beginners or experts who are serious for momentous streaks of point-earning leaning.  Even with 16-bit technology it’s likely the fancy title screen has made the programs built into this cartridge more involved in electric performance.  Amazon sells odd items in their loosely managed website.  Pong itself shouldn’t have been foul play for the Sega Genesis 3 but it is- and, whatever you do, don’t use the “shield” option because the shields tend to bump the ball around to no end and I’ve actually had to reset my Sega Genesis 3 because the ball between the shields wouldn’t stop bouncing in a specific area that puts gameplay on hold.  Arcade Classics seems more like a hacker’s job than professional work along the line.  Atari was struggling in the early-90’s and their copyright got misplaced for this Genesis program.  Miner 2049er for the Atari 2600 was consistent in its flow of gameplay although its slow movements are related to Sega Genesis mechanics since the Genesis console has very similar controller ports.  This fact is interesting- Xbox One and PS4 are only so divided in programming and light effects are realized in video game performances between those competing consoles.  Technically Sega was a competitor to Atari.  Missile Command feels sluggish, as does Centipede, and the Pong games are sacrifices in odd performance.  Xbox 360 consoles have much better deals than Sega Genesis consoles when the boot fits and everyone should go home happy for something.  Arcade Classics for the Sega Genesis is a wonderful curiosity and no more.  Gamers likely had this perception that the old video games weren’t “real” or were “obsolete” and it’s certain the programmers for Arcade Classics struggled against the roaring, spoiled tide of modern life in the 90’s.
